Yes, it is really helpful as it causes heat which burns the snow (a little) and the ski or sled actually runs on a layer of water. If there was no friction, you would not move.

Friction is actually not helpful to runners on a sledge, as it can slow down the motion of the sledge. To make the sledge move faster or smoother, reducing friction between the runners and the surface they are sliding on would be more beneficial. Lubricants or smoother surfaces can help decrease friction and improve the performance of runners on a sledge.

What happens to the frictional force when the sledge reaches the grass?

The frictional force between the sledge and the grass increases due to the interaction between the rough surfaces. This increase in friction helps to slow down the sledge and eventually bring it to a stop.

How is friction reduced for a bobsled?

Friction for a bobsled can be reduced by using materials like PTFE on the sled's runners, which have low coefficients of friction. Keeping the runners smooth and well-maintained also helps reduce friction. Additionally, minimizing contact with the ice by using a thinner sled design can further decrease friction.

When is decreased friction helpful?

Decreased friction is helpful when you want to reduce wear and tear on moving parts, improve fuel efficiency by reducing energy loss due to friction, or allow for smoother movement in machinery or vehicles.

When you ride a bicycle whenis friction helpful and when is it not helpful?

Friction is helpful when you need to slow down or stop by applying the brakes. It allows the brake pads to grip the wheel rims and create the necessary force to halt the bike. Friction is not helpful when you want to maintain a constant speed, as it creates resistance that can make cycling more challenging.

What are 2 situations were friction can be helpful?

Friction can be helpful in everyday situations such as when walking to prevent slipping on surfaces. It is also critical for the operation of brakes in vehicles, where friction between brake pads and rotors helps to slow down and stop the vehicle.

What helped move pyramid stones?

The inclined plane in the form of a ramp. A sledge with narrow runners which reduced friction. Friction was further reduced by pouring a lubricant such as water or oil under the runners. The motive force was the brute force of thousands of naked slave labourers.

What does the word sledge mean?

A sledge is a trailer which runs on runners rather than wheels.

What happens when you are sledging down a snowy slope and you run into a grass path What would happen to the speed of the sledge and why?

The coefficient of friction for sledge runners on grass is much higher than on ice, so there will be a large and sudden increase in the retarding force. The deceleration will be this force divided by the total mass. If the rider doesn't hang on he/she will tend to continue at the latest velocity (ie thrown forward off the sledge).

What is a flat-bottomed sledge called starting with t?

Toboggan is the word you are looking for. A toboggan is a simple sledge (or sled). It has no runners or skis on the underside and is just used on snow.

When friction is not helpful?

Friction can be helpful and not helpful it is not helpful when you are running because it slows you down hope that'll help!!!! ;)

Where friction is helpful?

Friction is helpful between car tyres and roads for grip. It is also sometimes used for heating as friction generates heat.
