I went to the post office today (1/07/11) and one manilla envelope (without the metal fastener) with one piece of paper in it cost $.88 - it weighed 1 ounce.
The second envelope contained 8 pages and weighed 3 ounces and cost $1.22.
So by my calculations the envelope alone weighed about an ounce and 8 sheets of 8.5x11" weighs 2 ounces.
