To convert a number in scientific notation to normal form:

· If b is positive, move the decimal point b places to the right in the number a - adding 0s at the end of the number, if required.

· If b is negative, move the decimal point b places to the left in the number a - adding leading 0s after the decimal point, if required.

For example:

4.56*105 = 456000.

4.56*10-5 = 0.0000456

I have avoided using the term "Standard form" because, ironically, it is a non-standard term. In the UK Standard and Scientific forms are the same (so, in answer to the question, you do nothing) whereas in the US, the Standard form is what I have chosen to call the normal form.

To convert scientific notation to standard notation, you multiply the base number by 10 raised to the exponent. For example, for 6.02 x 10^23, you would multiply 6.02 by 10 raised to the 23rd power to get the standard notation result.

To convert a number in scientific notation to normal form: · If b is positive, move the decimal point b places to the right in the number a – adding 0s at the end of the number, if required. · If b is negative, move the decimal point b places to the left in the number a – adding 0s immediately after the decimal point, if required. · The final expression has the same sign (+ or -) as a in the scientific form. For example: 4.56*10^5 = 456000. -4.56*10^5 = -456000. 4.56*10^-5 = 0.0000456 I have avoided using the term "Standard form" because, ironically, it is a non-standard term. Is standard notation scientific notation?

It is one of the great ironies of Mathematics that "standard" is not standard. In the US, standard notation is a number, like 953, which would be written in scientific notation as 9.53 x 10^2 In Britain, scientific notation is also known as "standard form."
