Look at a ship for example... It is made entirely of steel but it manages to stay afloat. The steel ships are filled with air which causes the average density to be less than water's density (1.00 g/ml). If you had a piece of plastic it would just sink because the density is more than water.

Plastic can sink if it is denser than water, while steel can float if it is shaped in a way that traps air, increasing its overall density and allowing it to float. This concept is related to the principle of buoyancy, where an object will float if it is less dense than the fluid it displaces.

Do legos float in liquids?

Yes, LEGO bricks are buoyant and will float in liquids such as water. This is because the material used to make LEGO bricks, ABS plastic, has a lower density than water, allowing the bricks to float.

How does an objects size and shape affect buoyancy?

Well, buoyancy is capacity to float in liquid. So the object needs to have air to make it float an example for an boat the Titanic for example was really heavy it was made out of steel so it had air in the bottom to make the ship float.

Does plastic float in salt water?

Yes, plastic can float in salt water due to its low density compared to seawater. This property allows plastic debris to remain at the surface of the water, which can have negative impacts on marine life and ecosystems.
