because the government decided since our country is "free" that they should not force religion on people, so they took religion out of schools and tried to take religion out of the government as much as possible. they made their schools free and since you have to pay for private schools -which teach religion- and our economy is failing so more and more people can't afford these schools they don't even think about religion.
