Kind of a folk dance would be the "Schuhplattler". There's no English word to translate that dance. Austria is also very famous for the waltz.
German Dance first started in the 16th century
It is a very old shoe slapping folk dance that originated in the Alps of Switzerland, Austria and German Bavaria that may have been a courtship display in its original form. It is often seen performed by troupes during Octorbest wearing traditional Bavarian costumes. One variation is what young children like to call the Chicken Dance that can often be seen at Polka Clubs and Beer Gardens across America wherever people like to hold on to their heritage and family traditions.
