If she didn't have lessons or classes earlier in the day a Geisha would usually wake, have a quick dinner, then begin her nightly transformation. She would do her make-up, select her ensamble, then her dresser would come to the okiya and dress her. From there she would check in to see about the appointments that had been booked for her. She would visit ochaya (tea houses) where she was booked to entertain. She would spend her time with her patrons (paying customers) where she would talk to them, pour tea or sake, dance, play music, or sometimes even sing. A Geisha usually visits many many tea houses in one night. Then some time in the morning before sun rise she would make her way back home to her okiya.

Do Geisha still exist in Japan today?

Yes they are. It takes many years to train to become a geisha. They learn clever conversation skills, to play musical instruments, poetry to recite and of course the intricacies of the rirualistic tea ceremony. They are not, as commonly believed in the West, prostitutes, but highly trained professionals in a field that we have no parallel to. For me, I would not appreciate the formalities and rituals as I would not understand them and I am too arthritic to sit on the floor
