"To be or not to be, that is the question. Whether it is nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or to take up arms against a sea of troubles. And by opposing end them: to die, to sleep No more; and by a sleep, to say we end The heart-ache, and the thousand Natural shocks That Flesh is heir to? 'Tis a consummation Devoutly to be wished. To die to sleep, To sleep, perchance to Dream; Ay, there's the rub, For in that sleep of death, what dreams may come, When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause. There's the respect That makes Calamity of so long life: For who would bear the Whips and Scorns of time, The Oppressor's wrong, the proud man's Contumely, [poor] The pangs of despised Love, the Law's delay, [disprized] The insolence of Office, and the Spurns That patient merit of the unworthy takes,

When he himself might his Quietus make With a bare Bodkin? Who would Fardels bear, To grunt and sweat under a weary life, But that the dread of something after death, The undiscovered Country, from whose bourn

No Traveller returns, Puzzles the will, And makes us rather bear those ills we have, Than fly to others that we know not of. Thus Conscience does make Cowards of us all, And thus the Native hue of Resolution Is sicklied o'er, with the pale cast of Thought, And enterprises of great pitch and moment, [pith] With this regard their Currents turn awry, [away] And lose the name of Action. Soft you now, The fair Ophelia? Nymph, in thy Orisons Be all my sins remembered.

From Hamlet.

A soliloquy is when the character who is speaking is alone on stage and then expresses some of there personal thoughts and or emotions of the character they are playing.

Shakespeare has made a lot of plays which involve Soliloquy's. The most famous being Hamlets 'to be or not to be' In this play Hamlet is asking To live or not to live or in other words Shall I live or shall I die.

Another example of Shakespeare's play is Romeo and Juliet and the soliloquy is when Juliet says 'O Romeo, Romeo, Where Art Thou Romeo?'' In this play Juliet is basically asking where is Romeo or in other words Where are you romeo?

A soliloquy is when characters speak their thoughts aloud for the benefit of the audience.

An example of soliloquy in Romeo and Juliet is the speech that starts with "Gallop apace, you fiery-footed steeds" (Juliet, in Act 3, Scene 2). Here is an excerpt:

Come, night. Come, Romeo. Come, thou day in night,

For thou wilt lie upon the wings of night

Whiter than new snow upon a raven's back.

Come, gentle night, come, loving, black-browed night,

Give me my Romeo. And when I shall die,

Take him and cut him out in little stars,

And he will make the face of heaven so fine

That all the world will be in love with night

And pay no worship to the garish sun.

Other examples include the speeches that start with these lines:

"Well, Juliet, I will lie with thee tonight" (Romeo, in Act 5, Scene 1)

"Ah, dear Juliet, why art thou yet so fair" (Romeo in Act 5, Scene 3)

"Farewell! God knows when we shall meet again" (Juliet in Act 4, Scene 3)

"Sweet flower, with flowers thy bridal bed I strew" (Paris in Act 5, Scene 3)
