I was just wondering this and finally found an answer!

An internal rhyme puts emphasis on the two words that rhyme, it also quickens the pace of the line.

For example in the poem 'Nettles' in the quote 'and then i took my hook and honed the blade' this shows the speaker's urgency to do the action intended, and the speed in which they want to do it. Also, took and hook are stressed syllables which puts emphasis on them.

Hope this helps you and anyone else who needs to know!
