Drama and theatre can be fairly synonymous, but there are several differences. Drama most closely refers to the art of acting on a stage, or the work being performed. It also is an opposite to comedy, meaning that drama takes a more serious tone than lighthearted comedies. Theatre is any component of the art of putting on a performance, including technical work and other components often left out of "drama." When spelled "theater," the word refers to the physical space in which these productions are performed.

Normally one distinguishes between a Drama- with a serious, though not necessarily tragic theme ( such as Dragnet) and Comedy such as Three Stooges, etc. all movies are a form of dramatics, but not all are drama, so it goes .
