OS is an open-source operating system
LINUX and Unix OS is open-source operating system.....! but Windows version OS is not the open-source operating system....!
Unix is NOT open source, it is proprietary copyrighted code owned by AT&T and you must purchase a license to use it, as you do on Windows and Mac OS X.However both Linux and GNU are open source OSs with equivalent functionality to Unix.
Having the source code open for anyone to edit or modify for free.
Symbian OS
Classic Mac OS is closed source. Mac OS X is closed source as well, but many libraries and applications within it are open source, e.g. XNU the kernel is open source, and Darwin the underlying UNIX operating system was open source.
The Darwin kernel of Mac OS X is open source, as are many other parts of the OS. (See links below) but Mac OS X itself is not open source and Apple only allows it to run on Apple hardware.
Is MacOS an open source system? No.

no
It is estimated that Mac OS consist of 60 million lines of code.
I'm not sure if you mean the foundation of Mac OS X itself, or of the desktop. The desktop is a part of Mac OS X's Finder application which is written by Apple from scratch in Objective-C using the Cocoa framework. Mac OS X itself's core is Darwin, a UNIX operating system based on the open source FreeBSD.
The Mac OS X Kernel is a hybrid based on the XNU kernel derived from the former NextStep implementations. Much of the code is open source and freely available. (See links below)
OS stands for operating system. It is basically what runs your computer. Examples of operating systems are Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X Tiger, Mac OS X Leopard, and Mac OS X Snow Leopard (there are many more).
Definitely a Mac is the right choice Source: I'm using a MacBook Pro right now
