William Shakespeare published many poems and plays during his life. In 1593, while the theatre was closed, he published "Venus and Adonis" and in 1594 he published "The Rape of Lucrece". "A Lover's Complaint" was published in 1609. In 1601 he published "The Phoenix and the Turtle". A fifth poem he published was Sonnet 138 in 1599.
