"Helicopter parents" hover over every aspect of a child's life trying to control and protect the child. Unfortunately, starting at about age 8 or 9, children need to start to manage some of their own affairs and making their own decisions. The children of "helicopter parents" have difficulty in learning to manage their own lives and making their own decisions as adults, because they've never done it before.
