During the gold rush period in the late 19th century, it is estimated that tens of thousands of miners were present in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The town experienced a significant population boom during this time due to the gold discoveries in the region.
It took 69 days to rescue all 33 miners from the San Jose mine in Chile in 2010. The miners were trapped underground following a cave-in on August 5th and were eventually brought to the surface on October 13th.
