Parry had been in ill-health since 1834 because of the strain of his Australian work. In 1854 there was a cholera epidemic in parts of London, and while it is not certain that Parry was suffering from this condition, he was advised to consult with certain doctors abroad. By June 1855, Parry was in Ems, Switzerland, and died there on the 8th July, of what we are not certain.
