A bait caster is a type of fishing reel. The other two common types of fishing reels are the spinning reel and spincast reels. The baitcaster reel has the reel and the guides of the on the top of the fishing rod (as does a spincaster rod and reel). The baitcaster reel is the most difficult to learn how to use but generally casts farther and has a better drag system for handling larger and more powerful fish.
The value of a Winchester casting reel model 4356 depends on its condition. A reel in excellent condition is valued between $100.00 and $120.00.
Spinning rods are designed to work with spinning reels, which are typically mounted on the bottom side of the rod. Casting rods, on the other hand, are designed for casting reels, where the reel sits on top of the rod. The line guides on spinning rods are typically larger and face downward, while casting rods have smaller line guides that face upward.

YesBut I would not recommend it for the beginner.
A Shimano Solstace FL fishing reel develops the new concept of "automatic hooking" which aids a fisher greatly when he does not have the supporting strength to lift a line on current conditions.
It just depends what line captivity your reel has if your reel can hold around 140yards or higher it would be find. If your using braided line go for it . Besides your reel has a 14 pound drag. Fishing reels have drag lbs not set line weight.

I have an Abu Ambassadeur 5600c bait casting reel. There are no markings on the reel to tell me what the maximum test line and how many yards I should put on. HELP Book and box from my Sweeden 5600c say 17 lbs/110 yds.
Bait-Casting and Spin-CastingBait-casting and spin-casting are similar in that the lure isflipped from the tip of the rod, pulling the line from the reel.Casts of 60 and 70 feet are easily made. The lure is thencranked in by turning the reel's handle. The reel is on top ofthe rod and control of the cast is through use of the thumbon the casting hand. However, bait-casting reels have a revolving line spool thatmust be "thumbed" lightly during the cast to prevent the linefrom overrunning and creating a backlash. Spin-casting reelshave fixed spools mounted sideways. The line comes off theend of the spool. During the retrieve, a pin causes the lineto wind back onto the spool. With a bait-casting reel, the linewinds directly on the spool when the reel handle is turned. All spin-casting and many bait-casting reels have adjustabledrags that allow a hooked fish to take line out under presetpressure so that quick rushes will not break the line. Thesereels are extremely accurate and useful in hitting small openings in weed beds or around snags. However, learning howto master these skills takes practice.Bait-casting is done with a wrist and forearm motion. The rod is held so that the reel handle is up, with the thumbholding the line secure. The rod is brought up sharply untilvertical, the weight of the lure bringing the tip back to a oneo'clock position. With an almost continual motion, the rod iswhipped forward and thethumb releases the line, allowing the lure toshoot forward.-------Are you a boy scout completing the Fishing Merit Badge like I am? Well, read the book! If you don't have the merit badge books, I found an online site if you have Google Docs that has all the books on it.
I like an 8 foot ,medium action rod with a closed face reel for acurate casting. There are advantages to open face and bait casters reels but if you ae not fishing more then a couple times a year I suggest a closed face. You might want to look at getting some BulletBobbers from www.bulletBobber.com if you like fishing more then casting. Closed fac reels don't hold much line and aren't good for casting large plugs because it wears them out too quickly.
