Paul McCartney plays a Hofner 500/1 1963 Bass Guitar. He chose this bass as it was easy to revert it to left handed. He still plays this bass today.

He started off with the Hofner as it was easy to flip over to play left handed and has gone back to playing it. For a number of years (especially after they stopped playing live) he played a Rickenbacker 4001.

In the early 90s he had a custom Wal bass which was "like wearing a door".
