They are most certainly measured differently. The "50" in 50 caliber is measuring in inches and should actually be referred in writing as ".50 Caliber." The "5.56" is in millimeters (mm) and should be written as "5.56mm".

To compare the two:

.50 Caliber = 1/2 inch = 12.7mm
5.56mm = ~ .2189 inch

So the .50 caliber bullet is roughly 2.28 times wider than the 5.56mm caliber bullet.

What is the difference between a 9mm bullet and a 45 cal bullet?

The main difference between a 9mm and a .45 caliber bullet is the diameter. A 9mm bullet has a diameter of 9 millimeters, while a .45 caliber bullet has a diameter of .45 inches. The .45 caliber bullet is larger and generally heavier than the 9mm bullet, resulting in differences in recoil, speed, and stopping power.

Is a 30-30 larger than a .30 caliber bullet?

No

Bigger caliber .40 or 9mm?

The .40 is larger in diameter and (normally) has a heavier bullet.

What is the difference between a 38 caliber and 40 caliber bullet?

The .40 caliber bullet is a little larger in diameter and is a little heavier (under most circumstances). The .40 will usually have more powder, velocity, and muzzle energy. Also, the .40 is designed for use in a semi-automatic and the .38 is a revolver cartridge.

Can you hunt deer with a 22mag in IN?

No. Indiana does permit the taking of deer with handguns, but requires that the bullet must be of at least 0.243" diameter or larger (the required bullet size for rifles is even larger, and that for muzzleloaders larger still). .22 caliber ammunition, regardless of load, does not meet this requirement.

Which is a bigger handgun a 40 caliber or a 45 caliber?

Either platform can be larger than the other. The 45 has the larger projectile. Caliber is defined as the diameter in fractions of an inch, so .40 caliber is smaller in diameter than .45 caliber. Caliber can also be defined in the metric system, measured in milimeters. The .40 caliber cartridge is equivalent to 10mm in diameter. As noted, the size of a handgun can vary widely within one caliber, so it is perfectly reasonable to have a smaller handgun crafted in a larger caliber.

What is the difference between a 38 caliber pistol and a 22 caliber pistol?

The 22 is a very small bullet and the 38 is about 4 times larger. The pistols however may be about the same size but will be chambered accordingly.

Which bullet can travel farther 9mm or caliber 40?

A .40 caliber bullet typically travels farther than a 9mm bullet due to its higher muzzle velocity and larger size. The .40 caliber bullet has more energy and better ballistic performance, allowing it to maintain its velocity over longer distances compared to a 9mm bullet.

What is a bigger bullet 45 caliber or 357?

The .45 caliber is bigger in diameter. If you mean weight. The .45 caliber is generally heavier. However there are some lightweight .45 caliber bullets that are lighter than .357 caliber bullets. Generally speaking .45 caliber bullets weigh between 180 - 230 grains. While .357 caliber bullets generally weigh between 158 - 180 grains. If you are talking about diameter, the .357 caliber bullets are approximately 0.357 inches in diameter. The .45 caliber is approximately 0.450 inches in diameter. Again, using this measure, the .45 caliber is the larger bullet.

What is a fmg bullet?

A FMG is a small caliber bullet designed for air rifles somewhat like a pellet but quite a bit larger (length/weight not caliber). They are either swagged for more precise accuracy or cast for general shooting or hunting. I've never heard of their us in USA, I think it's pretty unique to South Africa.
