Hypothermia basically means being very, very cold. It's treated by returning the patient to normal core temperature. Dependent on degree of hypothermia, patient's general condition and resources available it can be treated in different ways.

Rapid heating can cause cardiac arrest, so often it's best simply to wrap the patient up in blankets, put them somewhere at room temperature and let them recover by themselves.

A doctor would treat hypothermia by doing a procedure called blood rewarming. This a process where blood is drawn, warmed and then recirculated into the body. They may also give you warm intravenous fluids.
