AVID is designed to teach students the skills they need to achieve academic and personal excellence. Students will learn methods for organizing their time and work. They will learn to use the Inquiry Method to think deeply about their work, learn to work successfully in collaborative teams, and enhance their writing, reading, and research skills in order to strive for excellence in all that they do. They will participate in activities that give them every opportunity to attain High School success, creating a 7-year plan that will lead to acceptance to the college of their choice. They will participate in preparation for tests such as the CST, District Benchmarks, PCHASEE, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and other standardized tests. They will learn the A-G requirements for college entrance and will work with their teachers to take classes that meet these requirements. Teachers will assist students in learning about college applications, financial aid, and scholarships. Students will explore STEM careers and colleges while being exposed to guest experts in the field. Every student will utilize technology to enhance the learning process as well as creating digital portfolios to document their work and content mastery.
