A wire transfer requires a bank routing number (the name of the bank in numbers) and the bank account number. There are other data involved as well:

Input Message Accountability Data (IMAD) and it is a mandatory unique key given to each wire transfer when using the Federal Reserve Bank Service. The second set of numbers is for outgoing transfers. The OMAD indicates a unique number assigned to each transfer providing delivery-related information. The OMAD consists of four components Output Cycle Date, Output Destination ID, Output Sequence Number and Output Date.
