Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit on their own. They had a whole team in different parts of the mountain at the time but it was just the two of them who reached the top.

I'm sure he had a whole team, but the man most often included in descriptions of the ascent is Tenzing Norgay. There was (and still is) some debate as to who really summitted first, he or Hillary. his name was poofter head and he pooed a lot
