As per 2012, there are 2909357 licensed registered nurses in the USA.
In many states, LVNs (Licensed Vocational Nurses) are not authorized to apply casts or splints. This task typically falls under the scope of practice for registered nurses or physicians. LVNs may assist with patient care related to casts or splints but not typically involved in their application.
Licensed practical nurses (LPNs), or licensed vocational nurses (LVNs), care for people who are sick, injured, convalescent, or disabled under the direction of physicians and registered nurses. (The work of physicians and surgeons and of registered nurses is described elsewhere in the Handbook.) The nature of the direction and supervision required varies by State and job setting. LPNs care for patients in many ways. Often, they provide basic bedside care. Many LPNs measure and record patients' vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. They also prepare and give injections and enemas, monitor catheters, dress wounds, and give alcohol rubs and massages.
Nurses are either Registered Nurses (R.N.s) or Licensed Practical Nurses (L.P.N.s). Many are now B.S.N. with college degree. However, other than on legal documents, a nurse can simply be called by his / her name. If in legal documents, use the full name followed by your educational-level title.
As of December 2009, there were 11,883 actively licensed registered nurses (RNs) and 2,202 licensed practical nurses (LPNs) in South Dakota, of which at least 90 percent are employed in either full-time or part-time positions.

There are many types of nursing employment. They include: licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, nursing assistants, nurse practitioners, and several other professional positions.
The length of LPN schooling is generally 14 months or 1530 hours. Licensed practical nurses make an average of $34,000 a year!
In many countries you can do so.
No it does not. There are some private schools, and you will also find this program at many vocational schools. However, it is not equivalent to a college degree.
Not much since an AA degree is only a 2 year degree. Mainly it depends on the classes you took towards a BA or in getting training in one area. If you really want to work in science you need to go on for a BA with a major in one area of science. Otherwise you have 2 years of college and some units that may help you get a job.
