"180 degree longitude" is not zig-zag. It's the same shape as any other meridian of
longitude ... a smooth, continuous, 'straight' line on the Earth's surface that joins
the north and south poles.
However, the International Date Line ... which is 'nominally' the same as the 180 meridian ...
is zig-zagged. That was done in order to avoid splitting any single island, state, or country
into two different calendar dates. One of the places that would have had two different
dates if the IDL had been drawn straight is the state of Alaska.

∙ 12y agoThe 180-degree longitude does not zig-zag, it forms a straight line from the North Pole to the South Pole, dividing the Earth into the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. It may appear as a zig-zag on certain maps due to the distortion caused by projecting the curved surface of the Earth onto a flat map.
Yes. The 180 degree meridian can either be referred to as East or West. It is where the "International Date Line" is based. It dictates where one day starts and the other finishes. To save confusion however, the date line is not does not pass through habbitated land which gives it a zig zag characteristic from the North Pole to the South Pole along 180E/W. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Date_Line

Metalloids, also known as semi-metals or semiconductors, are the elements that border the zig-zag line on the periodic table running from aluminum to ununoctium. These elements have properties that are intermediate between metals and nonmetals.
International Date Line; however, it does zig-zag around some political boundaries.
Nominally 180° longitude, although it does zig and zag from that line in several places.
