Petroleum evaporates faster than water because it has a lower boiling point and higher vapor pressure, which means it is more volatile. This allows petroleum to easily transition from a liquid to a gas at lower temperatures compared to water.

  1. Water has a greater specific heat (due to the greater proportion of Hydrogen atoms)
  2. The van der Waals forces between the water molecules are greater than those between alcohol molecules
  3. The boiling point of water is higher than that of alcohol
