Why do humans need water to live? To keep hydrated! I mean, you don't see us colonizing in dry, deserts with sand dunes, do you? Sure, we can if we have water pipelines and food and all, but mold can't build cities and grow food and make water pipelines to get water sources in the middle of a desert, they have to grow ON something with water.
