So long as you are a living, breathing human being, your entire existance is based on the chemical interactions going on inside your body. Everything from what you eat to what you breath is made up of chemicals, and the only way you can survive is through these interactions. Plus, chemistry takes up a huge proportion of industries that without chemistry, not only would you not be alive, but you'd never have electricity, clothes or anything else that you can buy.

So, yeah, it's important.
