Different time zones exist in the United States to account for the varying positions of the sun across the country. The Earth rotates 360 degrees every 24 hours, resulting in different time zones reflecting the local time based on longitude. This system helps to establish a consistent and organized way of keeping time across a vast country with multiple regions.
