Boiling point depends more on pressure, whereas melting depends very little upon the outside world but on the identity of the substance. Sublimation occurs when gas pressure in the local atmosphere is less than the vapor pressure and the melting temperature has not been reached yet.

Being a weird herbalist genius I've often asked this question myself. Sublimation happens to solids converting into gas directly skipping the melting phase or conversion into liquid. I'm actually high right now and answering the question I asked lmao. But when a solid sublimes it is usually due to its density. Metals usually melt rather than sublime because they are denser and have tighter molecules. And also remember high melting temperature = high conductivity. Plants usually sublime like leaves, paper, weed, wood because they have a low melting temperature (& low conductivity) which allows cooler heats to burn it faster. When the plant burns it reaches a heat that allows it to skip the melting process and thus Sublimation is formed.

Actually all solids can melt but there are certain solids that people don't try to melt because of its value which would include gemstones.

there are no consistent properties of subliming elements, they are distributed fairly randomly
