Diproton (two protons) and dineutron (two neutrons) are not stable because of the repulsive forces between like-charged particles (protons in the case of diproton) and lack of sufficient binding energy to overcome this barrier. The strong nuclear force can only hold together nucleons up to a certain limit, beyond which the repulsive electromagnetic force dominates, preventing the formation of stable diproton or dineutron nuclei.
