Because we evolved from animals, and animals need ears on the side of their head to be able te hear predators coming from every direction. That's why most animals can also move their ears around.

Sorry, but this is a terrible answer. We didn’t evolved geom animals, we ARE animals. Also, there are plenty of animals with ears in different locations, or without ears entirely.
