The rings of Saturn are visible because they are large and composed of particles which are very bright and reflective (ices). The visibility of the rings varies because while they are wide, they are very thin and when viewed edge on (we are moving to an edge on view at the moment - 2008) almost disappear.

The rings of Saturn are very visible because they are made up of countless small particles of ice and rock that reflect sunlight well. This high reflectivity, combined with their vast size and distance from Saturn, makes the rings easily visible even from a great distance.

Mainly because they are there!

Saturn has many, many rings to they are more visible, whereas Jupiter for example, has only one very thin ring and is not very visible, and so is often said to have no rings.
