Largely because of their high tensile strength compared to other materials.

There are many other reasons why various specificmetals are used due to unique requirements of a given application: aluminum is used in airplanes because they require lightweight materials, but steel is used in bridges because weight is not critical here and steel is stronger than aluminum, when high electrical conductivity is needed copper is usually used, etc.

Is tin used in airplanes?

Tine is not commonly used in any substantial percentage in the bodies of airplanes, because metals with higher strength to mass ratios, such as aluminum and magnesium are preferred. Tin could be used for specialty purposes, such as bearings.

Why does the density of aluminum make it more useful for making airplanes?

Aluminum is lighter than many other metals while still maintaining high strength. This lower density allows for lighter airplane structures, which in turn reduces fuel consumption and increases aircraft efficiency. Additionally, aluminum is corrosion-resistant, making it well-suited for the harsh outdoor environment airplanes operate in.
