The element, 'Copper' has been known to man for so many thousands of years, that we simply do not know who named it.

'Copper' is not the original name, though. The original accepted name was 'Kupros' in Greek, and 'Cuprum' in Latin.

This is why the abbreviation for copper is "Cu".

Copper is a naturally occurring element that was not "made" by anyone. It is one of the few metals that have been used by humans for thousands of years due to its unique properties and abundance in the Earth's crust.
