Unsaturated fats have one or more double bonds in their chemical structure, which causes them to be liquid at room temperature. They are usually found in plant-based oils and are considered to be healthier fats compared to saturated fats. Consuming unsaturated fats in moderation can help lower bad cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of Heart disease.

Unsaturated fats are found in vegetable oils and they are good for health. They are liquid at room temperature. Fats from animal origin are saturated and should be avoided as for as possible as they are not good for health. In unsaturated fats, you have 2,3 or more double bonds between chain of carbons. ( witch may be 16,18 or 20 carbon atoms in series. There are three such chains in one fat molecule attached to glycerol molecule. ) If you are playing outdoor games, daily for at least for an hour a day, then the little saturated fat, you have consumed will not harm you, in any way, as it will burn away from your circulatory system.

  • they have a high melting point and boiling point
  • they have no kinks
  • they have only single bonds between their carbon atoms
  • they have long fatty acid chains
  • they are usually solids at room temperature

Unsaturated fats are liquid at room temperature. They have fewer carbon to carbon bonds which have hydrogen added across them. Addition of the hydrogen makes them saturated and less liquid and even solids.

Olive and corn are examples of unsaturated fats?

Olive oil is an example of unsaturated fat, specifically monounsaturated fat. Corn oil is also an example of unsaturated fat, but it is a polyunsaturated fat. Unsaturated fats are usually liquid at room temperature and are considered healthier fats compared to saturated fats.

Unsaturated fats have double or triple carbon bonds.

Are unsaturated fats better than saturated fats?

Saturated fats are more stable than unsaturated fats. This is because the C=C double bond in unsaturated fats can react with oxygen in auto-oxidation, hydrogen in auto-hydrogenation and light in photo-oxidation.
