A Blade of Grass is a perplexing novel and first impressions are not favourable. It has no subtlety, with themes and symbols shamelessly flagged up as if Lewis Desoto expects his readership to be devoid of any sensitivity. He also has an over-fondness for sentences that are either rudely abrupt or so meandering as to provoke even the most diligent reader. Added to this are lurking doubts about the viability of the plot and characters.
In a turtle food chain or web, turtles typically occupy the higher trophic level as predators. They may feed on aquatic plants, algae, small fish, crustaceans, and insects. They can also be preyed upon by larger predators such as birds, mammals, and other reptiles.
A spoonbill and an alligator could interact in an ecosystem by competing for food sources, such as fish and crustaceans. The alligator may prey on the spoonbill if given the opportunity. However, the spoonbill could also benefit from the alligator's presence by scavenging on leftover food from the alligator's meals.
A Komodo dragon is a predator at the top of its food chain, so it is not considered a food chain in itself. A food chain is a linear flow of energy from one organism to another, showing the transfer of nutrients through various levels of a community. The Komodo dragon would be a part of a food chain as a predator preying on various lower-level organisms for its food.
Producers, such as plants, are the organisms in a food chain that add energy to every part of the chain. They do this through the process of photosynthesis, where they convert sunlight into energy that can be used by other organisms in the food chain.

Animals and plants are always invovled in a food chain. A food chain is a series of plants and animals each of which is eaten as food by the one above in the series. Humans are at the top of the food chain when only considering plants, or animals which humans kill and eat. However, the food chain can quickly change when a human puts him or herself too close to an alligator, shark, or any large, hungry predator.
