It depends which wave you're talking about. There are many different ones,

and the energy they carry has different origins.

-- The energy in ocean waves and sunny-day light waves and heat waves

originates in the sun.

-- The energy in the sound wave emitted by a violin string originates in the

arm muscle of he or she who draws the bow. (Actually in the food she ate

the night before the concert, which ultimately came from the sun.)

-- The energy in a seismic wave originates in the Earth's core.

-- The energy in the waves of golden wheat in the field originates in the sun,

heats the air, and the wind carries it to the wheat.

Tidal wave energy comes from the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun on Earth's oceans. As the water is pulled towards these celestial bodies, it creates tidal movements which can be harnessed to generate electricity using tidal energy technology.

Ultimately from the sun, which heats air, causing it to rise, thus changing pressures, which is what makes wind blow. yup

Wave energy can be found aywhere in the world where there is enough wind to produce waves for most of the time. But several are planned for the UK.
