Gorges are formed by water or rivers continually flowing over the land. It can happen quickly when glaciers melt and huge amounts of water move over an area, or it can happen slowly over time.

∙ 14y agoOver thousands (even millions) of years, a creek or river carves a path through harder rock. Because only the area where the water passes will be worn down, the resulting gap in the earth is very thin and deep; a gorge as opposed to a valley.
Gorges are commonly found in mountainous or hilly regions where rivers or streams have carved deep channels through the rock over long periods of time. They are also often located in areas with steep cliffs or rocky terrain, creating dramatic and picturesque landscapes.
