oil is lighter than water so the oil floats on the water. you can prove it by shaking a bottle with water and oil and shake it then leave it overnight then check it and you'll see why oil and water don't mix .

Oil and water do not mix because they are immiscible due to differences in their molecular structures. Water is polar and forms hydrogen bonds, while oil is nonpolar and does not interact with water molecules. This causes them to separate into distinct layers when mixed together.

There is a chemical reason that oil and water cannot mix. Water is what is known as a polar molecule, meaning that one end of the molecule is positively charged, and the other is negatively charged. Oil, however, is made up of non-polar molecules and therefore does not attract the surround water molecules. Since the oil is separated from the water, eventually the oil will gather together.

Water and oil do not mix because water is a polar substance and oil is nonpolar. The general rule of solubility is like dissolves like.

They have different Viscosities which does not allow the two to mix.

Why do objects have the same denisites?

because they have the same mass when placed in water

Would water pressure be the same at the same depth in two containers that had very different shapes?

Yes, water pressure at the same depth is determined by the height of the water column, not the shape of the container. As long as the depth is the same in both containers, the water pressure will be equal.

What can handle more pressure a small closed container or a large closed container if the amount of liquid placed in it is the same?

small container

What happens when ice and patrol are in the same container?

when ice and petrol are in same container ,ice will float on the surface of petrol, because ice is a frozen form of water .As water floats on oil it can not mix in it.

How big is a water tank?

About the same size as a water container.

Do small amounts of liquids fill a large container?

No, small amounts of liquids do not fill a large container. The volume of the liquid stays the same, regardless of the size of the container it is placed in.

A large and a small container of water with the same temperature have?

The large container of water will take longer to heat or cool down compared to the small container due to its larger volume. This is because it has more mass and therefore requires more energy to raise or lower its temperature. Both containers will eventually reach the same temperature if left in the same environment.

When a ruler is placed into a clear container what changes take place?

-- Some of the air in the container is forced out, being displaced by the volume of the ruler, and being unable to occupy that same space at the same time. If there is liquid in the container, then the same goes for the liquid. -- If there is liquid in the container, then at least part of the ruler becomes wet.

How does a hot water cools when it is kept in a closed container?

Hot Water cools, though kept in a closed container, because of its surroundings.Heat escapes into the environment till the temperature of water(system) and surroundings become the same. Its simply the transfer and exchange of energy.

What will happen when cold air and warm are added to the same container?

when cold and warm air are added in the same container it causes water.

Is the volume of air inside a container still the same when some water is poured inside?

No, the water displaces the air if the container is open.
