As of late October 2010, the last (moderate) El Nino was long gone and we have a strengthening La Nina currently, which is predicted through winter and maybe even through next spring. Beyond that it is very difficult to predict the behavior of this oscillation.

El Niño events occur irregularly, but they typically happen every 2-7 years. Currently, forecasters are not predicting an impending El Niño event, as conditions in the tropical Pacific Ocean are not showing signs of warming associated with El Niño. Always refer to updated forecasts for the most accurate information on El Niño predictions.
