Since New York City is in a coastal area at the mouth of a river, the landscape is generally flat. Long-term habitation by humans has led to the mitigation of alluvial buildup, and therefore the situation is generally static.

In the 1600s, New York was characterized by its dense forests and varied landscape, including hills, valleys, and rivers. The region was home to diverse wildlife, such as deer, beavers, and fish. The area that would become New York City had a natural harbor that would later become a bustling port city.

Many of the lakes today were there during the time, and also including rivers such as the Hudson River. The mean elevation's mean is 1000 ft above sea level, so it probably hasn't changed much if not at all. There is also a cave behind Niagra Falls if you might count that. My guess is that it would have been a harsh climate, and rich soil in the river valleys. Many forrests i would assume. Hope i helped you!
