As a general rule, igneous rocks are impermeable. Metamorphic rocks may also be impermeable, but this will depend on the mineralogy and level of metamorphism. These rocks are impermeable because they have crystals which interlock, forming a watertight structure. This is the rule, but there are exceptions. Sedimentary rocks tend to be permeable or porous, and many will even dissolve, or their cement will dissolve in water. This is because of their often clastic structure which has some holes in it.

Some common impermeable rocks include granite, basalt, and shale. Impermeable rocks have low porosity and do not allow fluids to pass through them easily, making them useful for constructing barriers in engineering applications such as dams or landfills.

Are the rocks permable or impermable?

I believe that permiable rock allows substances like water pass through the pores of the rock, however impermeable dosent make it pass through. That is not fair why would we be able to edit this if we want to find the answer anybody like me saying this can edit this.😋😋

How and why does the water in a river fluctuate?

A river fluctuates by different things such as weather, relief, rock type, water cycle, deforestation, urbanization. The water cycle plays apart by evaporation and transpiration so water rises into the atmosphere and is realised in pores of vegetation. Also because of infiltration where water is taken in by soil and permable rocks ( permable rock are rocks that water can get through while impermable is the opposite) and is taken down further and is now ground water! Rock type because as i just said permable = less water in rivers impermable = more water in rivers urbanisation = drains and impermable surface aka concrete mean water gets to the river quicker. Previous weather also affects it ,if it was dry there is less water if its a wet day more water. Hope this has helped :) remember these are only some on the ways a river fluctuates. (If some people dont no what fluctuates mean its just when water in a river rises and lowers again.)
