If a person is traveling they would need to know how to read a map, and what the symbols mean. The Compass Rose, is a compass. It gives a map reading direction, from where they currently are, to their end destination.
A map scale helps users determine the actual distance on the ground represented by a particular measurement on the map. This is essential for accurate navigation, estimating travel time, and understanding spatial relationships between different locations.

Zip code maps are generally not the best way to use when travelling. Personally I would encourage you to use a regular road map instead. You can get free roadmaps from www.mapnation.com.

For one thing maps are something you carry with you when you are traveling. You can simply keep a map in your pocket or bag get it out when you need it and fold it into a nice tight package when you don't. A globe would have to be very big to be useful under most circumstances and would be a haste to Cary around.
It's just another way of saying "be useful". When you are in the woods a map and compass would be of use. They would be useful.

A Mercator projection map would be useful for comparing the sizes of continents as it preserves the shapes of continents but distorts their sizes, making it easier to visually compare.
It is useful because it is directly above Earth's north pole so if you were traveling north, you would know what to follow
The topographic map shows the whole layout of an area. you could actually picture the area.
