Some plants have green stems because of the chloroplasts within each plant cell. Although we generally think about the leaves of a plant having chloroplasts and making 'food' for the plant- the cells of the main stem of the plant, or its branches may also have chloroplasts.

Chloroplasts can be easily seen through a microscope and look like flat green disks inside the cell.

A plant stem is green due to the presence of chlorophyll, a green pigment that allows the plant to photosynthesize and produce energy from sunlight. Chlorophyll is found in chloroplasts within plant cells and is responsible for the green color of plant tissues.
