You would need a compound light microscope to see the fine details of an ant's exoskeleton, such as the texture, hair, or ridges on its surface. These microscopes use light to illuminate the specimen and provide high magnification to observe such structures.

Is an ant a vertebrate and is a moose a vertebrate?

No, ants are invertebrates, not vertebrates; Yes, moose are vertebrates. Ants have an exoskeleton and thus lack a back bone. Moose have an endoskeleton, and thus need a backbone in order to protect the very sensitive spinal cord from potential damage.

Do ants stretch when they wake up in the morning?

No, ants do not stretch when they wake up. Ants are typically active immediately after waking up to begin foraging for food and taking care of their colony. Their exoskeleton provides the support they need for movement without the need for stretching like mammals.

Do ants drown?

I read on the inside of a lid from a Snapple bottle (tenuous fact alert) that "ants can survive for up to 2 weeks under water". It didn't specify what kind of ant, or what kind of water (fresh, salt, etc). I'd love an actual answer to this one myself.
