The atmospheric greenhouse effect is a theory as follows: Heat from the sun passes through the atmosphere, warming it. Most of it warms the surface of the planet. As the Earth warms up, it emits heat in the form of infra-red radiation - much like a hot pan emits heat even after it's taken away from the cooker. Some of this heat is trapped by the atmosphere, but the rest escapes into space. The so-called "greenhouse gases" in the atmosphere absorb some of this radiation, making it warmer than the cold of space. This has been liken to a greenhouse (although a greenhouse actually does this by stopping warm air rising and escaping from it). Note that the atmosphere is cooler than the earth surface. Temperatures decrease about 6.5 degrees C per kilometer of altitude. It is claimed that the atmosphere "back radiates" to earth, increasing earth temperatures. The greenhouse theory described above violates the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. Heat cannot flow from a cool atmosphere to a warmer earth surface. Gerhard Gerlich describes this in detail here : http://arxiv.org/PS_cache/arxiv/pdf/0707/0707.1161v3.pdf

The greenhouse effect exists because certain gases in the Earth's atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide and methane, trap heat from the sun. This trapped heat warms the planet, creating a stable climate that supports life. However, human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, have increased the levels of these gases, leading to global warming and climate change.

How does the greenhouse effect earth?

the greenhouse effect influences the earth by cause global warming. The reason why is because the greenhouse effect, traps heat in our atmosphere, causing the earth to heat more than usual.

The Greenhouse Effect is making the earth what?

Greenhouse effect is making the earth hot as we all know that the whole greenhouse is covered with glass and glass traps the sun rays and heat in it and similar is the condition of the earth as it also traps the heat in it and this is the reason it is becoming hot and called as greenhouse effect.

What is the greenhouse effect and two chemicals that can cause it?

The Greenhouse effect is when all of the carbon is burned off and rises up, the atmosphere traps the heat in, which is one reason for global warming

What would happen to earth if the greenhouse effect did not exist?

If the greenhouse effect did not exist, Earth would be much colder than it is now, with an average temperature of about -18Β°C (-0.4Β°F). This would make the planet uninhabitable for most forms of life. The greenhouse effect plays a critical role in trapping heat from the Sun and maintaining Earth's temperature within a range suitable for life.

Trapping of heat in the earths atmosphere by certain gases is known as the?

greenhouse effect

Is the greenhouse effect the reason for the melting of the North Pole ice?

Yes, the greenhouse effect plays a significant role in the melting of the North Pole ice. Human activities release greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, trapping heat and causing temperatures to rise. This warming effect contributes to the melting of the ice at the North Pole and other polar regions.

Why is it important for us to have a greenhouse effect on earth?

The greenhouse effect is vital for maintaining Earth's temperature and making the planet habitable. Without it, Earth would be too cold to support life as we know it. By trapping heat in the atmosphere, the greenhouse effect helps regulate Earth's climate.

What is a sentence with greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect is the natural way that the Earth keeps warm. Too many extra greenhouse gases turn the greenhouse effect into an enhanced greenhouse effect. The enhanced, or accelerated, greenhouse effect is causing global warming.

Why is the greenhouse effect nessarcy?

The greenhouse effect is necessary because it helps regulate Earth's temperature by trapping heat from the sun in the atmosphere. Without this natural process, the planet would be much colder, making it unsuitable for sustaining life as we know it.

How do you use The greenhouse effect in a sentence?

The greenhouse effect is a natural process that warms the Earth's surface.

The trapping of heat by a planet's atmosphere is called what?

The trapping of heat by a planet's atmosphere is called the greenhouse effect. This occurs when gases like carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere trap heat radiating from the planet's surface, leading to a warming effect.

What do humans do to effect the greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect keeps us all warm enough for life. The enhanced greenhouse effect causes global warming.
