Latin America is a huge expanse of land including Mexico in North America down to Tierra del Fuego in South America. It has many ecosystems, ranging from arid deserts such as the Sonoran and Atacama deserts in Mexico and Chile, to the polar wastelands found in the Chilean and Argentinean Patagonia, to the tropical rain forests in the Amazonian basin to the temperate grasslands of the Argentinean Pampas.

The main ecosystem in Latin America is the Amazon rainforest, which is the largest tropical rainforest in the world. It is home to a diverse range of plant and animal species, many of which are found nowhere else on Earth. The Amazon plays a critical role in regulating the planet's climate and is vital for global biodiversity.
