Vitamin D promotes absorption of calcium from the intestine. Vitamin D prevents excretion of calcium ions through the kidneys. There by prevent kidney stone formation. Vitamin D promotes deposition of calcium salts in the bones. Man has got vitamin D deficiency, ever since he has started wearing cloths. Everyone needs to be given vitamin D supplements routinely. Vitamin d is a fat soluble vitamin. So it can be given as massive dose at say monthly interval. I prefer to give 60,000 I.U. of vitamin D every two month to children and adults. From age thirty to forty I give injection vitamin D 6,000,000 deep intramuscular per year. At times twice from age 35 to 40, specially in women. From forty to fifty years, I give injection vitamin D two to three times a year. From fifty to sixty years of age the dose is given three to four times a year. From sixty to seventy I prefer to give vitamin D every two months. From seventy years on wards I prefer to give monthly injections of vitamin D 6,000,000 I.U. The women are to be given more frequent doses of vitamin D as compared to men. Because they are usually less exposed to the sun light as compared to men. From the forty years on wards I prefer to add calcium salt supplement. Calcium carbonate is less absorbed. But it is very economical salt. It can be given in higher dose.
