Oxidation occur s when a substance poses an electron and combines with another substance. In some cases this reaction is initiated by having the atoms excited by a wave lenght of light such as the Ultraviolet. Thae presence of a catalystic surface like TiO may assist the process.

Photochemical oxidation is therefor the reaction of a chemicla cjhange in a substance which causes it to lose electrons which is initiated by light.

A common example is photochemical smog which is caused by hydrocarbons and NOx reacting under the influence of UV light

Oxidation is a chemical reaction where a substance loses electrons, leading to an increase in its oxidation state. This process often involves the substance reacting with oxygen. Oxidation can result in changes in the properties of the substance, such as color changes or the formation of a new compound.

Regarding the so called Redox set of chemical reactions, the process of chemical reduction is the opposite of the process of chemical oxidation.

What is different between the Reduced methane H2CH2 (CH4) and the Oxidized carbon dioxide O=C=O is - the reduced molecule has no Oxygen whereas the oxidized molecule has no Hydrogen.

Interspersed throughout the above is electron transfer - paramount in importance to Photosynthesis.

a process Which involves gain of oxygen or loss of hydrogen?

Oxidation is a process that involves the gain of oxygen or the loss of hydrogen. During oxidation, a substance loses electrons, resulting in an increase in its oxidation state. This process is commonly associated with the formation of oxides and release of energy.

Which does NOT involve an oxidation process?

Photosynthesis does not involve an oxidation process. Instead, it is a metabolic process in plants where they use sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen.
