A region with very hot climate and little rain is typically classified as a desert. These areas have extreme temperatures and low precipitation levels, leading to arid and dry conditions. Examples include the Sahara Desert in Africa and the Arabian Desert in the Middle East.
The Atacama Desert, located in South America, is the driest desert in the world. The desert's aridity is caused by the combination of the cold Peru Ocean current, which traps moisture and limits precipitation, and the shifting winds that prevent rain clouds from forming over the region.
Seeds of many desert wild flowers typically sprout after seasonal rains, which can vary depending on the specific region and climate. In deserts, seeds may remain dormant for extended periods until conditions are suitable for germination. Once the seeds receive enough moisture, they can quickly sprout and begin to grow.
The Texas coastal plains region typically experiences hot and humid summers with frequent thunderstorms and the occasional hurricane. Winters are mild with occasional cold fronts bringing cooler temperatures. Rainfall is relatively evenly distributed throughout the year, with more rain in the summer months.
